Empowering Academic Leaders: Day 3 of “Abhyuthanam” at IIT Jammu

JAMMU, May 27: The second cohort of the Academic Leadership Engagement Programme, “Abhyuthanam,” currently being held at IIT Jammu from May 25th to 29th, 2024, continued to inspire and empower visionary leaders from Centrally Funded Institutes (CFIs) across India.
Supported by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, Abhyuthanam aims to fortify leadership qualities and institutional growth strategies among the nation’s top academic leaders.
On the third day of this transformative programme, the participating 20 academic leaders engaged in a series of insightful and interactive events.
The day commenced with an enriching talk by Ravi Kant, former Managing Director of TATA Motors, who emphasized the importance of self-management in leadership. Kant highlighted that self-awareness, self-regulation, and self-motivation are critical traits for inspiring leaders. He also stressed the significance of “leading from the back,” suggesting that this approach can enable leaders to achieve remarkable outcomes.
Following this, Prof. Ashok Ganguli, Director of IISER Berhampur, delivered an enlightening speech on institution building. Prof. Ganguli articulated the complex journey of establishing and nurturing an institution, emphasizing that adaptive leadership, strategic planning, and a commitment to innovation are essential to transform challenges into opportunities for growth and excellence.
The day also featured an interactive session where all participants discussed their priority action points for the development of their respective institutions. This collaborative session allowed leaders to share insights and strategies, fostering a spirit of collective advancement.
Concluding the day’s events, participants visited the IIT Jammu campus in Jagti. Here, they observed firsthand the activities and infrastructure of one of India’s fastest-growing 3rd Generation IITs, further enriching their understanding and vision for their institutions.
Throughout the programme, participants delve into key themes such as self-sustenance, the Indian Knowledge System, student wellness, innovation and entrepreneurship, mindfulness in decision-making, policy matters (NEP), self-management as a leader, the emerging digital world, and the future of Indian academics and global presence.
Abhyuthanam continues to offer immersive discussions, hands-on workshops, and collaborative networking opportunities, ensuring that the leaders at the helm of CFIs are well-equipped to drive excellence and innovation in Indian higher education.
