NEW DELHI, June 29: The BJP today demanded Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who took over the Finance Ministry portfolio after Pranab Mukherjee’s resignation, tell the country about the roadmap to improve economic situation.
“The government itself has destabilised the country’s economy. We demand the Prime Minister to tell the country about the roadmap, if he has any, for inclusive economic growth,” senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi told reporters at a press conference.
He asked the Prime Minister to put before all political parties and other stakeholders measures to be taken to improve economic situation and also to check decrease in rupee value.
Dr Joshi assured BJP’s support to improve the economy, if the party was “convinced” by the government that the steps will be in interest of the common man.
“The BJP will support all the good measures to improve the economy and for all round development. But the Prime Minister should first tell about his ways in this regard,” he added.
Dr Joshi said the Prime Minister was also saying about the review of economic decisions.
He said it shows that Dr Singh was “not happy” with the working of former Finance Minister and it was the reason that Mr Mukherjee was nominated for the Presidential election.
“The economic situation has become worse only because of wrong fiscal and monetary policy of the government,” he commented.
The senior BJP leader alleged that there was a lack of government’s credibility in all the sectors be it industries, education, health, services and employment.
Dr Joshi said the government says that it was making efforts to bring foreign direct investment (FDI) but the fact was that the Indian businessmen were investing their money in foreign countries instead of their own country due to “deteriorating” economic situation here.
He claimed that a number of schemes including MGNREGA launched in the name of the common man have been surrounded by a large scale corruption.
The senior BJP leader said his party will raise all these issues in the next Parliament session.
When asked about the BJP’s stand on pension and insurance reforms, Dr Joshi said the government should come out with open ideas and prove that the steps were in interest of the people.
He also lashed out at the Centre on high inflation.
“The government since 2005 has been saying that the inflation will come down in two months, three months,” Dr Joshi added. (UNI)
