JAMMU, May 29: – A delegation from the All India Kashmiri Pandit Conference (AIKPC) called on Anil Koul, Secretary Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation & Reconstruction and Manoj Pandita, Secretary of the Assembly, at the Civil Secretariat here, today. The four-member delegation was led by AIKPC working president, Kuldeep Kashmiri.
During the meeting, the delegation had in-depth discussions with both officers about the ongoing difficulties faced by displaced Kashmiri Pandits who have been living in exile for more than three decades. Anil Koul listened the issues and assured the delegation of every possible support to alleviate the miseries of the displaced community.
Kuldeep Kashmiri highlighted the plight of over-aged relief holders, who are among the worst affected by this prolonged displacement. He emphasized that individuals who were in the age group of 18 to 35 during 1990-91 are now in their fifties and seventies, having missed the prime of their youth due to circumstances beyond their control. The Government was urged to compensate for the losses suffered by these individuals.
The delegation also demanded that relief zones be converted to digital modes, equipped with modern facilities such as laptops and Wi-Fi connectivity. This digitalization would help streamline processes such as inclusion, deletion, and other administrative tasks, thereby extending the benefits of technology to this marginalized community.
Furthermore, the discussion included the dignified and time-bound return of Kashmiri Pandits to their motherland. The delegation demanded that the Government to develop a mechanism to consult each family individually, rejecting any modules proposed by self-styled constituencies lacking proper mandate.
In addition to submitting a memorandum to Anil Koul, the delegation is actively reaching out to politicians, officers, social activists and the general public to raise awareness about the plight of Kashmiri Pandits. Secretary Anil Koul reiterated his commitment to providing every possible support to the displaced community.
Among others who were present in the meeting included comrade Mohan Lal, Ravinder Koul and IK Raina.
