LMD Kulgam slaps LPG bottling plant with penalty of Rs one lakh

SRINAGAR, May 31: Legal Metrology Department (LMD) Kulgam has slapped a Samba based LPG bottling plant with a penalty of one lakh rupees for supplying underweight LPG Cylinders for public distribution through retailers.
The field executives of Legal Metrology Department under the supervision of Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology, Kulgam, apprehended a consignment of 324 domestic LPG Cylinders en-route to the godown of a local Gas Agency at Kulgam.
During the surprise inspection of the consignment the Gas Cylinders were found under weight. The consignment was seized immediately and a case was booked against the Samba based supplier. Subsequently the registered case was compounded for a sum of one lakh rupees as per the relevant sections of the Legal Metrology Act.
The seized cylinders were released to be returned to the supplier for their rectification before supplying them for public distribution with the strict directions to avoid such a malpractice in future failing which severe action as warranted under law would be ensured against the erring parties.
Earlier, the directions were issued by Controller Legal Metrology Department J&K, Majid K.A Drabu wherein the field executives of LMD were directed to conduct the special inspection drives against LPG Dealers in terms of the provisions of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and LPG Regulation (Supply and Distribution Order) 2000.
