Srinagar Mar 17: Curfew like restrictions continued in parts of Bandipora district of North Kashmir for the third day today following death of a youth in alleged police firing on Friday and rest of the Valley returned to normal after two days of strike and restrictions.
Curfew like restrictions continued in Bandipora town, Sumbal, Naidkhai and Hajan for third consecutive day today. Defying the restrictions scores of youth took to streets in Hajan, Naidkhai and Shahgund. Protesters clashed with police at several places during the day.
Clashes between protesters and Police and CRPF also broke out at Palhallan in North Kashmir’s Baramulla town when the police vehicle was attacked by protesters in the area. Police fired tear gas shells to disperse the protesters. The situation remained tense till late evening.
Stone pelting incidents were also received from Tral area where at the main bus stand, people hurled stones at 185 Bn CRPF bunker. Forces later dispersed the crowd by firing several teargas shells.
A police spokesman said here that situation remained normal across the Valley barring stray incidents of stone pelting at Hajin and Naidkhai in Bandipora. “No one was hurt till last reports came in,” the police statement added.
Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front activists and its chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik were detained in Srinagar today after they took out a protest march in Maisuma area of Srinagar over the killing of Farhat Ahmad Dar.
Farhat Dar was killed on Friday evening during protests in Naidkhai area of Bandipora district. Police said that protesters attacked a security forces vehicle and tried to set it ablaze prompting them to open fire in which Dar was killed.
Life returned to normal in other parts of the Valley today after two days. Shops, business establishments, offices and banks functioned normally, official sources said, adding public transport also plied.
