JAMMU, June 1: Keeping in view the religious sanctity of the holy town, District Magistrate Reasi has prohibited sale and possession of tobacco products in Sub-Division Katra, from Nomain Check Post to Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan.

According to an order in this regard, issued by Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Vishesh Paul Mahajan, the sale/possession/consumption of tobacco products, including Gutka (chewable and non-chewable), cigarettes and other related products is prohibited in Sub-Division Katra from Nomain Check-post, Panthal Naka and start point of Tarakote track to Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan, including track.
“Any violation of this order shall invite strict punitive action Under Section 188 of Indian Penal Code and SSP Reasi shall implement this order in letter and spirit,” reads the order.
Pertinent to mention that sale, possession and consumption of liquor and meat is already banned within eight km radius of Katra town.
