POONCH, June 1: Forest fire has spread in many areas of Poonch and Mendhar for the last couple of days.
Official sources said that a fresh fire incident was reported in border area of Salotri in Poonch district. The concerned department officials and locals were trying their best to control the fire.
Information reveals that due to hot weather condition, the forest in Salotri area caught fire yesterday in evening. The locals informed Forest Department after which the operation to douse the fire started, which is in progress.
The forest fire has also been reported in Mendhar sub-division for the last two days. Due to fire near the LoC, scores of mines also exploded creating a scare. The Forest Department Poonch have issued the advisory to prevent the forest fire incidents and to save the forests.
Forest fire created haroc in Samba district also. Late Friday night, the fire spread to houses of people in Bindu Baida near Mansar. As soon as the information was received, SHO Samba Sandeep Charak, Tehsildar Samba Shabbir Ahmed, Forest Department officials and fire brigade vehicles reached the spot to control the fire. After a lot of hard work, the fire was controlled. Local people were scared when the fire reached near the houses. As soon as the fire brigade vehicles reached the spot, they felt relieved.
On Saturday afternoon, fire broke out once again in Papad village near Mansar and spread to nearby hotels built on the roadside. As soon as the information of the incident was received, senior officials of the district administration including District Development Commissioner, Abhishek Sharma reached the spot and efforts were made to control the fire. The fire was brought under control after a long time. Although there is no news of any major loss or injury, the fierce forest fire has caused a lot of damage to many trees, plants and wildlife animals, which is very difficult to compensate for.
