Villagers block highway against power outage

SRINAGAR, Mar 17: Scores of villagers blocked the Pulwama-Srinagar Highway for two consecutive days at Pinglena in district Pulwama to protest against the Power Development Department demanding restoration of electricity.
The angry protesters blockade left thousands of people of South Kashmir stranded on the road. Authorities also failed to convince or disperse the protestors in these two days.
Aggrieved residents shouted slogans against the PDD and the Government. They demanded that their village should be connected the Pulwama receiving station instead of Narwa receiving station so that they didn’t face power problems in future.
The residents also blamed their MLA for failing to address their problems.
Similarly, Uthoora villagers of the district also staged protests against PDD for its failure to supply scheduled electricity to their village.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Muneer-ul-Islam, however, said the district administration has restored the traffic movement in the area by dispersing the protesters at Pinglena.
But reports said the traffic was still stranded on the highway as the residents refused to end their protests.
