JAMMU/DODA, June 3: A massive forest fire broke out in forest, adjacent to NH- 244 near Suigarh forest (Puldoda) within the range of one kilometer last evening while forest fire has engulfed major area of Akhnoor, Kalidhar, Saruinsar, Mansar, Purmandal area of Jammu and Jasrota Range of Kathua forest division.
Reports said that after coming to know about the massive fire near Puldoda, two Quick Reaction Teams of Indian Army rushed to the spot at about 7:25 pm for carrying out fire fighting operation. Fire brigade from Doda also reached at 7:35 pm and fire was completely extinguished at about 8:45 pm and no loss of life was reported.
Fire fighters displayed unmatched bravery, skill and fire control which avoided further spreading of fire in nearby areas with the help of civil water bowser. Their rapid response and unwavering dedication averted a disaster, earning them profound admiration and gratitude. Heroic actions of Indian Army exemplified the selflessness and professionalism of our fire fighting teams.
Meanwhile, massive fire has engulfed forest in Atham, Saruinsar and Mansar of Jindrah Forest Range, besides Kalidhar area of Jammu Forest Division for the last three days. On Bajalta-Atham-Saruinsar and Mansar road, the movement of traffic was also restricted for some time by the Forest Department teams, while fighting fire. This fire has caused threat to several hamlets and villages of the area. Two Fire tenders were also pressed into service along the road on Jammu-Saruinsar-Mansar during last three days. The wind has further aggravated the problem.
With the ongoing fire for the last 3-4 days in these forests of Jindrah and Bahu Range of Jammu forest division, massive loss has been caused to the forest and wild life species. Many fir trees have been burnt and some fell down on the road, causing temporary blockades.
Similar reports of damage to the forest has been caused from Jasrota Forest Range in Kathua, besides Forest range of Ramkote including Galak, upper areas of Dinga Amb and Nagrota Gujru. This forest fire spread to the larger area has caused massive damage to flora and fauna in Kathua, Samba and Jammu Forest Divisions.
Reports from Akhnoor said that forest fire in Kalidhar Range has spread to a larger area during last couple of days. With the wind storm it has further engulfed massive area. Today evening, with the thunder shower in this belt some relief has been received and fire has also been controlled. This fire has kept entire Forest staff busy in fighting the fire round the clock for the last over one week.
