KATRA, Mar 18: Vice-Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Prof Sudhir K Jain flagged off an “Election Express” Van from Spiritual Growth Centre Katra as an initiative of district administration to create awareness among the voters and enroll new voters.
The Election Express will move to 147 Panchayats in a month till April 17th, the date of polling for Udhampur-Kathua Parliamentary constituency.
The van has a live polling booth, Electronic Voting Machine, Form-6 for enrolment of voters, pledge letters, signature campaign boards, cultural troupe and loud speaker for announcement. It will move across villages in Assembly segments of Reasi, Gool-Arnas and Gulabgarh. The van is aimed at registering more voters till March 26 which is last date for enrolment as voter as per continuous updation in the district and after that it will cover the entire district with message of electoral participation. A team of artists will host a series of programmes on the route of Election Express which will be coordinated by field officers of various departments. In 30-day long journey, the Election Express will spread the message of informed and ethical voting.
Speaking on the occasion of flagging off, Vice-Chancellor Prof Jain extended all possible help to the district administration for such noble initiatives.
District Election Officer, Reasi, Dr Shahid Iqbal informed that the special Election Express has been launched for instilling more energy in the ongoing SVEEP campaign Jashn-e-Jamhuriat and in the final phase elicit greater electoral participation in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
ACR Tilak Raj Sharma, ARTO Rajesh Gupta, AD Handicrafts Manu Hansa and other officers accompanied the Vice-Chancellor during flagging-off ceremony.
