SRINAGAR, June 5: As a part of the continuous drive under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan,’ the Drug Department today shut down eight more medical shops for failing to upload records under the Computerized Billing System (CBS).
Officials said the inspection was done outside the SMHS hospital and adjoining areas, aiming to ensure compliance with the directives already issued in this regard.
“Due to the non-compliance with regulations, the operation of 10 Medical shops was suspended today in Srinagar City. Eight shops have been shut down after it was found that they failed to upload records properly on software for computerized billing systems and are still providing manual bills, despite the installation of CBS on their premises,” Reema Gizala, Assistant Drugs Controller (ADC), told Excelsior.
She said that these Medical shops were given ample time and notice to update their systems with the necessary software for computerized billing, which is mandatory under the current regulations.
“However, despite reminders and extensions, these eight shops failed to comply with the requirements, leading to their closure. Additionally, operation of two Jan Aushadhi shops were also stopped for a day in the absence of qualified persons.”
She warned that defaulters in this regard, stating that those found involved in violations would face consequences under law in the event of a subsequent offense.
“No overpricing by the retailers was found on the spot and from records checked by the team, as was alleged in a recent complaint received in this regard,” she said.
The officials further noted that, due to the sustained efforts, the problem of touting “no longer persists outside the OPD area of SMHS.”
