General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Army 15 Corps Lt General Rajiv Ghai was talking to reporters at the Bipin Rawat Stadium in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district after a function to felicitate Kargil War veterans on the 25th anniversary of Vijay Diwas.
“The situation on the borders is stable. Whatever is needed to keep the situation stable will be done by the security agencies,” he said.
Asked about Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain’s statement that 70 to 80 foreign militants were active in J&K, Lt General Ghai said the police chief’s remark was factual.
“As far as the numbers are concerned, the DGP has stated a fact. How the security agencies are proceeding against them, you know very well how the operations are conducted,” he added.
Regarding the recent encounter in Pulwama, where the longest-surviving Lashkar-e-Toiba commander was neutralized, GOC said that every successful operation is a sign of progress and a step forward.
The event also honored the contributions of Kargil War veterans, with Lt. Gen. Ghai lauding the Himalayan regiment for their exceptional bravery and decisive action during the war.
In the meantime, security forces recovered two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from a field in Pulwama district today.
“The IEDs – buried underground in two plastic containers – were recovered by the security forces from Nehama area of Pulwama district,” an official said.
The officials said that a bomb disposal squad was summoned and the IEDs were destroyed without causing any damage.
