JAMMU, June 9: A protest demonstration was staged here today at Chowadi by the locals against poor water supply.
The protest was led by Ved Sharma, Co-incharge BJP All Cells J&K.
The protesters raised slogans against Jal Shakti Department (JSD) for its failure to provide regular drinking water supply.
Addressing the protesters Ved Sharma flayed the working of JSD and highlighted the ongoing issue of two tube-wells under construction at Delni Kashana and Noora Colony.
“Despite being ready for use, these tube wells are non-functional due to a communication gap between JSD, Mechanical and PDD Divisions. Due to internal mismanagement of the concerned department, people of Chowadi are suffering badly,” he maintained.
Sharma said that he met JSD Chief Engineer and others many times in last eight months regarding water shortage issue but nothing fruitful emerged.
“During winter season, three tankers were provided for water supply but in summers two tankers have been removed which forces people to purchase their own water tankers,” he continued adding: “To address the issue I visited three Mohallas in Chowadi and nominated a committee of 4-5 members to observe, inform and manage water supply situation.”
The BJP leader appealed Lieutenant Governor and Chief Secretary of J&K to intervene.
Balram, Biraj, Ashok, Jeet, Jyoti, Asha, Madhu and Indu Bala were also present in the protest.
