Residents reported that they have been suffering for several decades due to the absence of a proper drinking water supply, noting that the WSS under construction is no less than a dream come true for them.
“We have been suffering for a long time. Now, the WSS will benefit us. We have not had a proper water supply for decades. We have been getting water through tankers, and the women have also faced issues,” said an elderly resident, Abdul Ahad Dar.
He said that he is 75 years old and has never seen a proper drinking water supply in the area, which consists of nearly six villages.
“We are now hopeful that the issue will be resolved once and for all. We must also acknowledge the efforts made by the concerned department,” he added.
While the WSS will cater to the drinking water needs of nearly six villages, the locals mentioned that the total population in these villages is over 20,000, who will now heave a sigh of relief.
Another resident, Sanaullah Shah, said that previously there were two WSSs operational in the area; however, both failed, causing the population to face difficulties.
“I cannot believe that this construction is happening for a WSS in our area; it is a dream come true for us. Moreover, it will be a relief for our women, who still have to walk long distances to fetch drinking water,” he said.
Haji Abdul Majeed, a resident, who has been following up on the matter and seeking resolution by the authorities, appreciated the prompt response given by the administration and the concerned department, ensuring that a WSS is constructed in the area.
“After 1977, there were two WSSs operational, but they failed, and since then, we have been facing issues regarding the drinking water supply. Now the PHE has approved this project under JJM. It is a 50-year-old demand that has finally been fulfilled,” he said.
