KISHTWAR, June 10: Police here today arrested three notorious peddlers of narcotic substances and recovered heroin-like substance from them.
SSP Kishtwar informed that on a specific tip regarding smuggling and sale of narcotic substances among the youth in Gudhali area of Kishtwar, a team of cops led by SHO Police Station Kishtwar and supervised by Dy.SP Hqrs Kishtwar raided the rented accommodation of peddlers Sonam Angyal, son of Sonam Tsring, resident of Padder, presently at Brahman Mohalla Kishtwar and Sujal Kumar Shan, son of Ramesh Kumar Shan, resident of Dool, presently at Brahman Mohalla Kishtwar and arrested them.
During their search, 18 gram heroin-like substance was recovered along with Rs. 23,300 cash, a digital electronic weighing machine and an aluminium foil.
In this regard a case in FIR No. 159/2024 U/Section 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Kishtwar and investigation started.
Meanwhile, in wee hours today, cops from Police Station Kishtwar noticed suspicious behaviour of a person attempting to evade cops but the cops apprehended him and recovered heroin-like substance weighing about 5.5 gram from him.
The accused was identified as Vikas Sharma alias Rohit, son of Raj Kumar Sharma, resident of Bus Stand Udhampur, presently at Akhyarabab Kishtwar.
In this regard, a case in FIR No. 160/2024 U/Sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Kishtwar and an investigation started.
SSP Kishtwar emphasized that the investigating officer has been instructed to thoroughly examine the backward and forward linkages in the case, including scrutinizing of the bank account statements of the accused persons to ensure that all individuals involved in the illegal trade of narcotic substances are brought to justice under the relevant provisions of the law.
He urged the general public of Kishtwar to come forward with any information related to illegal drug trade and assured the public that identity of informants would be kept confidential besides suitable rewards for them.
