Srinagar, June 11: Diarrhoea outbreak has been reported in the Rayil area of Gund in the Kangan tehsil of district Ganderbal, prompting authorities to take preventive measures.
Apparently, the outbreak has been caused by the consumption of contaminated water being supplied in the area; however, that has not been ascertained yet.
After it was brought to the notice of the health authorities, teams were swiftly sent to the area to ascertain the situation and carry out the necessary sampling of the drinking water being supplied.
Officials stated that they have dispatched teams to ascertain the situation and also to carry out necessary public information campaigns so that people take due precautions.
At the same time, the PHE Department has collected drinking water samples from the area for further analysis to determine if the water caused the diarrhoea.
According to locals, nearly half a dozen patients, after complaining of fever and chills along with diarrhoea, were taken to nearby medical facilities where they received necessary treatment. Click here to watch video
A doctor who was part of the team sent to the area to assess the situation and inform people, especially children, about preventive measures noted that it is probably a waterborne disease. The doctor mentioned that they are waiting for the report of the collected samples.
Riyaz Ahmad, a local, said that it has been happening for the last few days, with people complaining of fever and diarrhoea. He said that the concerned staff of the PHE is not ensuring that clean drinking water is supplied to people.
“People are saying that all this happened after they consumed the drinking water supplied to them; it has surely happened due to it; it is negligence on the part of the PHE Department,” he said.
Zia, a 45-year-old woman who was admitted to a local healthcare centre after she experienced fever, chills, and diarrhoea, said: “I drank the water and sometime after that, I felt the symptoms; my husband has fallen sick including my kids.”
