SRINAGAR, June 12: The president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Farooq Abdullah, today said that terrorism in the region will persist unless India and Pakistan reach an understanding and find a solution.
He made these remarks while speaking to reporters outside the party headquarters, Nawa-e-Subah, in Srinagar today.
Reacting to recent attacks in Jammu, Abdullah said: “Terrorism is not going to end unless there is an understanding between the two nations. Terrorism will continue, and we have to face it. The tragedy is that innocent people are often detained and beaten afterwards. Many innocent people will die unless we wake up to the need for a solution.”
When asked about the necessity of dialogue with Pakistan, he described it as the only way to end the violence in the region.
“The foreign Minister mentioned yesterday that dialogue with China must continue, and he mentioned Pakistan for the first time. I hope they continue these discussions and find a solution. We are the ones facing these tragedies, and the innocent people of this state are suffering. The consequences then reverberate throughout the rest of the country. I hope they realize this,” he said.
