DLSA organizes awareness program on ‘Fundamental Rights & Duties’

LEH, June 13: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Leh in collaboration with the Central Institute for Buddhist Studies (CIBS) Leh organized a one-day legal awareness program on “Fundamental Rights and Duties” at the Auditorium Hall of CIBS.
The programme was organized to raise awareness about the Fundamental Rights and Duties guaranteed under the Indian Constitution.
Chief Guest of the programme was Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai (Judge, Supreme Court of India) and guest of honour was Justice Tashi Rabstan (senior most Judge, High Court of J&K and Ladakh). They along with Advisor to UT Ladakh Dr Pawan Kotwal, were welcomed by Secretary of the Law Department, Michael D’Souza.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Pawan Kotwal highlighted the historic evolution of fundamental rights & duties. He stated that the people of Ladakh are steadfast in fulfilling their duties and said that this was proved by the people during the Kargil War.
Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai emphasized Lord Budha’s teaching in the context of the Indian Constitution and stated that both rights and duties are the reflections of Buddha’s teachings.
Highlighting the urgency of gearing up for such events, Justice Bhushan stressed that following the rights and duties in letter and spirit is the need of the hour. Lauding the efforts of CIBS, he said that the institution is imparting standard education to all the students. He added that every citizen must contribute to the development of the nation by following rights and duties, guaranteed under the Indian Constitution.

The programme was also attended by Vice-Chancellor CIBS Leh Rajesh Ranjan, District Magistrate Leh Santosh Sukhadeve, Chief Judicial Magistrate Leh Tsewang Phuntsog, Secretary DLSA Leh Phuntsog Angmo, Special Judicial Mobile Magistrate Leh Chemit Yurgyal, SSP Leh Shruti Arora, Administrative Officer CIBS Leh, president Bar Association Leh, Senior Prosecuting Officer, CIBS students, religious heads and other officials.
