Modi reviews security scenario at high-level meeting
*Speaks to Shah, Sinha to take stock of situation

JAMMU, June 13: With four terror incidents in as many days in Jammu region, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today reviewed security situation in Jammu and Kashmir at a high-level meeting in New Delhi and also spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to discuss counter-terrorism operations and deployment of security forces.

Besides Shah and Sinha, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval is also reported to have given detailed view of prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir to Modi especially in the wake of four terror incidents in Jammu region including attack on a bus carrying Shiv Khori pilgrims killing nine civilians and injuring 43 others in Reasi district.
This was the first high-level review of security situation in Jammu and Kashmir by Narendra Modi after taking oath as the Prime Minister for third consecutive term on June 9. Significantly, the attack on pilgrims was executed by the terrorists just an hour before Modi’s oath ceremony. This was followed by three more terror incidents-one at Hiranagar in Kathua district in which two terrorists were killed and a CRPF jawan was martyred and two in Doda district in which seven security personnel were injured.

While reviewing security situation, the Prime Minister directed the officials to deploy the “full spectrum of counter-terror capabilities” in Jammu and Kashmir
The NSA and other senior officials attended the meeting.
The Prime Minister also spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to discuss security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and steps being taken to neutralize the terrorists.
Modi discussed with Shah the deployment of security forces and counter-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir. He also took stock of the situation from Sinha. The Lieutenant Governor briefed the Prime Minister on the efforts being undertaken by security forces against the terrorists.
In the high-level meeting, the Prime Minister was given a full overview of the security-related situation in the region and was apprised of the counter-terror efforts being undertaken.
Modi is scheduled to attend International Yoga Day celebrations in Srinagar on June 21. He is likely to reach Srinagar in the evening of June 20 as Yoga Day function will be held at 7 AM in Srinagar.
Sources said Union Home Minister Amit Shah and senior officials of the Ministry are constantly monitoring situation in Jammu and Kashmir as focus of the terrorists has now shifted to Jammu region instead of Kashmir where four attacks took place in four days.
“A regular brief is being taken on the situation by the Home Ministry from top brass of Jammu and Kashmir,” they said.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired Unified Headquarters meeting in Srinagar and held meeting with top police officials prior to that.
Both Central and UT Governments don’t want to take any chances with security as annual pilgrimage of Shri Amarnath Ji shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas is also starting on June 29 and will last till August 19, totalling 52 days.
While some of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) which were deputed to Jammu and Kashmir for election duty are staying, more paramilitary forces will start reaching from June 15. Deployment will be complete by June 25 well ahead of start of the pilgrimage.
“Security for the pilgrimage this year is expected to be enhanced keeping in view the attack on Shiv Khori pilgrims by the terrorists at Reasi,” the officials said.
