JAMMU, June 14: Shri Guru Ravi Dass Sabha Bahu Fort here today celebrated birth Anniversary of Babu Milkhi Ram, ex MLA.
Speaking on the occasion Sham Lal Basson, general secretary of the Sabha said that Babu was rightly called Ambedkar of J&K.
“He was a great social reformer who founded Harijan Mandal (Central) and won Assembly election from Marh constituency in 1957,” Sham Lal said.
He further said that Babu Milkhi Ram always stood with poor and downtrodden people and fought court cases of poor people free of cost.
“He rejected the offer of Finance Minister post during the regime of Bakshi Ghulam Mohd as there was a condition to dissolve Harijan Mandal,” Sham Lal maintained adding that Babu Milkhi could not construct a Pucca house throughout his life as he sacrificed his all comforts for the up-liftment of downtrodden.
Those who paid tribute to Milkhi Ram were Col. Mohan Lal (Retd), Capt Ashok Kumar, Vikram Singh, president SGRD Sabha Khour, Krishan Lal, ex-Lamberdar Ram Lal, ex-Panch Geeta Devi, Kamal Kalsotra, Ramesh Kalsi, Sham Hans, Sham Lal Kalsi, Veena Bakshi, Om Parkash, Ram Lal, Rattan Lal, Mangat Kalsi and Moti Ram Angral.
