JAMMU, June 14: Rakesh Chib has been re-elected as President of Jammu University Non-Teaching Employees Union, elections of which were held today.
In a triangular contest, Mr Chib defeated his nearest rival Amit Gupta with a margin of 77 votes and was declared elected as the president for the third connective term.
Besides Chib, his entire team was elected for the various positions, except the post of vice-president, which was captured by Gurmeet Singh by defeating Sanjeev Chadha with a margin of 21 votes.
Pankaj Gupta was elected as General Secretary and he defeated Vikas Langer with a huge margin of 141 votes. For the post of Joint Secretary, Varun Sawhney defeated Gursharan Singh with a margin of 131 votes while Vikram Thakyal defeated Joginder Singh with a narrow margin of 14 votes and was declared elected for the post of Organizing Secretary.
In a multi-corner contest for the post of Treasurer, Swarn Deep defeated his nearest rival Sudesh Tripathi with a margin of 20 votes.
Those who were elected as the Executive Members, included Sourav Chalotra, Arjun Singh Jasrotia, Deepak Anand, Kewal Kumar, Rohit Kumar and Ram Singh.
Elections were conducted smoothly and Prof Yash Pal Sharma, who was the Election Commission, formally announced the results.
The new team has been declared elected for the tenure of next two years.
