JAMMU/KATHUA, Mar 22: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control and Chairman Election Campaign Committee, Sham Lal Sharma has impressed upon the workers to step up campaign to seek people’s support for the Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha candidate, Madan Lal Sharma.
Addressing workers of Raipur-Domana and Marh Constituencies at separate meetings held at Roop Nagar and Marh today, the Minister stressed the need for convening Nukkad meetings and road shows to highlight the programmes and policies of the UPA Government during the two terms. He asked the workers to reach out at the grass-root level and enlighten the masses about the development initiatives being undertaken with the efforts of Madan Lal Sharma.
While briefing the workers about the achievements of the UPA Government at Centre, the minister said that several people friendly initiatives have been undertaken with the personal intervention of UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi and Congress vice president, Rahul Gandhi. The major initiatives included, MG NREGA, Food Security Bill, Land Acquisition Bill which were aimed at to benefit the poor and down trodden sections of the society. He said Congress is the only party which can ensure justice to all sections of the society and strengthen the bonds of communal harmony. He said the State Government which is in coalition, was also fully supported by the Centre and massive development in all vital sectors took place during the past over five years.
He asked the workers to convince the people about the programmes and policies of the Congress and its importance for the Jammu and Kashmir. He also asked them to expose the communal forces and defeating their nefarious designs during the elections. He said BJP and PDP have done nothing for the people in Jammu and Kashmir except giving hollow slogans and exploiting the sentiments of people in the name of caste, creed and colour.
MLC, Ghulam Nabi Monga, MLA, Indu Pawar, former Minister and senior Congress leader, Mula Ram, Th. Hari Singh Chib, Rajni Bala, Dhanatter Singh, Uttam Singh and Thoru Ram also addressed the gathering and asked the workers to make united efforts to ensure the victory of Madan Lal Sharma.
Meanwhile, a meeting of Congress workers was held at Sangrampur. It was organized by Indu Pawar-MLA & president Pradesh Mahila Congress.
While addressing the gathering Minister for PHE Sham Lal Sharma appealed the people to further strengthen the Congress party for a better future. He said that Congress party is the only secular force acceptable in all the three regions and has emerged strong because of people’s support to its policies and programmes and it will lead the State to peace, progress and prosperity. He cautioned the people against the forces of exploitation. He urged the people to reject such forces who create division among people for their narrow political interests.
Meanwhle, a meeting of functionaries of Block Congress Committee, Youth Congress, Mahila Congress and prominent citizens was held at Sunderbani under the chairmanship of Sahamsher Singh-block president.
Ravinder Sharma-MLC was the chief guest.
The meeting discussed the strategy for ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Panchayat-wise campaign committees were constituted, who will go for door to door campaign in favour of NC-Congress coalition candidate Madan Lal Sharma.
Earlier, Sharma addressed a largely attended public meeting at Siot. He cautioned the people against the forces of exploitation, who exploit the people on the name of religion & region for vote bank politics. He urged the people to reject such forces who create hatred and division among people for their narrow political interests. He asked the people to choose secular and unifying force like Congress for furthering the larger interests of nation and equitable development in the State.
The meeting was attended by Panchs, Sarpanchs and large number of Congress workers of the area.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leaders Subash Gupta-MLC, Th Balbir Singh (Ex-MLA), Pankaj Dogra and others addressed public meetings at Chadwal and Dayalachak in Kathua in support of Ghulam Nabi Azad contesting from Kathua-Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha Seat.
