SRINAGAR, Mar 22: In recognition of his noteworthy efforts for the promotion and propagation of Urdu language State Urdu Academy today felicitated Vice Chancellor University of Kashmir, Prof Talat Ahmad and hailed the recent decision of Academic Council of KU of starting a PG course in Urdu at its South Campus.
While felicitating Prof Talat during an impressive function which was held at KU the members of State Urdu Academy highlighted the efforts of Prof Talat for the promotion of Urdu language.
The members of Academy also appreciated yet another decision of appointing renowned scholar of Iqbaliyat and Urdu writer Prof Bahir A Nehvi as Director South Campus.
Prof Talat was presented a shawl, a citation and a set of Urdu books penned by famous writers of Urdu language of the State.
The members unanimously appreciated the Vice Chancellor for his interest in establishing Urdu program in South Campus and termed the decision as an important development for the promotion of official language of the State.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Talat said that he is very eager to see the proposed Urdu Department getting functional at the South Campus of the University and said that University will always support any such program and initiative aimed at the promotion of Urdu language. Prof Talat added that he will make sure that permanent positions are created for teaching Urdu at the Satellite campus of the KU and all necessary infrastructure is put in place for the benefit of the students.
Besides Registrar KU Prof Zaffar A Reishi, Prof Margoob Banihali, Heads of various departments of KU, renowned editors from various Urdu newspapers and press agencies, members of State Urdu Academy, writers and columnists were present on the occasion.
