DIG Sunil Gupta seeks support of all sections to eradicate drug menace

JAMMU, June 23: Terming drug abuse as one of the dangerous and threatening challenges before humanity, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Jammu- Kathua- Samba Range, Dr Sunil Gupta today sought the support of every section of the society to eradicate this menace.
He was addressing a programme organized by the Team Jammu on eve of “World Anti-Drug Day” , here today. Members of J&K Tawi Trekkers, Samvedna (NGO), noted Dogri writers, artists, singers, musicians senior citizens and volunteers of Team Jammu participated in the program.
DIG Sunil Gupta was the chief guest on the occasion, while Chairman, Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal presided over the function. SSP Jammu, Dr Vinod Kumar and President J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu, Advocate Vikram Sharma were the guests of honour while SP City North, Shivam Sidharth, senior Journalist Pardeep Datta and Ashish Kohli were special guests on the occasion.
Advocate Vikram Sharma and SSP Dr Vinod Kumar, in their respective addresses, appreciated Team Jammu for organizing such awareness programme, but emphasized redoubling the ongoing efforts.
SP City North, Shivam Sidharth, Journalists Pradeep Datta and Ashish Kohli appreciated the artists led by Pawan Verma who performed a small skit to educate the younger generation against drug abuse.
Some drug victims whose identities were kept secret with masks on their faces, shared how volunteers of Team Jammu guided them for rebuilding their careers.
Welcoming Lt Governor Manoj Sinha’s concern over growing drug abuse in J&K, Chairman of Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal asserted that the concern must be translated in reality and drug mafia has to be dealt with iron hands. “The time has come to launch operation flush out against drug lords operating in J&K, especially in Jammu Province,” he added
While appreciating the police for launching campaign against drug mafia in Jammu Province, Team Jammu chief , however, said that still there are some black sheep among cops involved in helping drug mafia. “Need of the hour is to single out such black sheep to make the ongoing campaign more effective and result oriented,” he said.
Noted Dogri poet, Thakur Randheer Singh Raipuria enthralled gathering with his famous Dogri poems written on drug abuse. Earlier, Law Student, Vasudev Singh presented welcome address while Happy Jamwal, Rajat Manhas, Keshav Chopra, Pratap Singh, Ashok Kumar, Suresh Sharma and Sanjay Verma also spoke on the occasion.
