Kallpoosh, Loomba Foundation join hands for widows’ empowerment

JAMMU, June 24 : Kallpoosh Foundation, in collaboration with Loomba Foundation, observed International Widows Day 2024 at Apna Ghar, a Senior Citizen Home in Nardhani, near here.
The day-long event featured an interactive session aimed at raising awareness and empowering rural widows. The participant widows came from different strata of the society including CRPF Veer Naris and other ladies from different areas of Jammu.
Resource persons from various organizations delivered lectures and shared insights on how widows can build a better life and future for themselves.
Dr. Rajender Dhar, former Additional Labour Commissioner / Additional Secretary (Labour), Government of NCT of Delhi, currently Resource Person of JKUT, presided over programme. He commended the efforts of both foundations, highlighting the importance of such initiatives in supporting marginalized members of society. Dr. Dhar, addressed several issues facing rural widows and assured them that their concerns would be brought to the attention of higher authorities.
The resource persons included Sunil Kumar from Mission Shakti Sankalp, who detailed Government schemes and services for women in J&K. Upasna Thakur educated women about their rights and offered free legal and human rights assistance. Kuldeep Singh Bhatia, Registrar of the Board of Technical Education, provided information about entrepreneurship schemes for women, girls, and other neglected sections of society. Anil Sharma, Principal of PMTC KVIC Pampore, presented an audio-visual documentary outlining various schemes, encouraging rural women to connect with his department and explore opportunities for economic empowerment. Dr. Sarita Sood, senior Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychology at the University of Jammu, offered insightful advice on navigating hardships and leading fulfilling lives. Daisy Bazaz, a senior artist also spoke on the occasion.
Social activist Anuradh introduced many deserving widows who have not been receiving the benefits of widow pension etc.
King C Bharati, JKUT Co-ordinator of Kallpoosh , read the welcome address. Veena Wanchoo, chairperson of Kallpoosh , emphasized the collaborative efforts of both foundations. Rajinder Wanchoo, team leader of Kallpoosh, delivered the vote of thanks.
Chushool Mahaldar, a social activist, and Ishu Bharati Pandit, a young actor and activist, managed the event.
