JAMMU, June 27: The Jammu and Kashmir National United Front (JKNUF) working president, Rakesh Handoo has expressed his concern over harassment being caused to migrants by the authorities.
In a statement issued here, today Handoo said that a new process has been started by the administration in Jammu which is nothing but to harass and humiliate the already suffering migrants facing the pangs of migration for over 34 years now.
He said it’s crucial to highlight that only a few thousand Kashmiri Pandit migrants receive relief and ration. Every year, a new bureaucratic exercise demands that these long-suffering community members submit documents and undergo verification-a process that has been ongoing for the past 34 years. The Relief Commissioner’s office already holds all the necessary records, so there is no justification for summoning community members to camps and designated centres for this purpose. Most of the community members are elderly, and their children are working in other parts of the country due to the Government’s consistent failure to provide employment opportunities within the UT.
He said now, these elderly individuals are forced to endure the scorching heat to satisfy the requirements of Government officials assigned to these duties. Despite 34 years of displacement, the paperwork never ended. Every year, with different pretexts, people are asked to update their records.
The KP leader, Dilip Pandita who recently contested Lok Sabha elections from Anantnag -Rajouri constituency also criticised the new move of the Government and termed it a tactical method of harassing the hapless community whom the Government failed to rehabilitate in last 34 years.
