KATHUA, June 28: The Forest officials seized a truck loaded with timber/fire wood in Kote Punnu area of tehsil Hiranagar last night. Reports said on the receipt of a specific input regarding suspicious movement of timber and fuel wood, a joint naka laid by Forest and FPF officials from Hiranagar near Kote Punnu yielded positive results. The team seized a truck bearing registration number PB06BF- 6730 which was transporting timber inconsistent with cover documents generated through NTPS portal. The seizure of vehicle was affected during intervening night under Section 52 of IFA, 1927 and truck was taken into custody within the premises of Jasrota Forest Range’s complex.
The whole operation was successfully carried out by joint team of Forest and FPF led by Block Officer Shiv Kumar and closely monitored by Range Officer, Jasrota, Rakesh Sharma under overall supervision of DFO Kathua Dr Rajan Singh.
Sources added that the timber was unscrupulously being smuggled out of UT of J&K in flagrant violation of Apex Court, and the truck was seized timely well behind the border of Punjab.
Confiscation proceedings in respect of seized truck alongwith loaded timber have been initiated in the court of Authorised Officer (Divisional Forest Officer) Kathua under relevant sections of the Indian Forest Act.
