JAMMU, June 29: The Crime Branch (EOW) Jammu has filed a charge sheet against a former police constable and his wife for a real estate fraud worth Rs 1.80 crore.
The accused, Mohammad Afzal Beg of Gool, Ramban at present Bahu Fort, Jammu, and his wife were involved in illegal property deal while serving in the J&K Armed Police.
Beg, who resigned from the IRP 19th Battalion Kathua in 2022, was accused by the wife of a reputed doctor from Jammu of fraudulently selling her two kanals of land in Sidhra, Jammu. Posing as the sole owner, Beg received an advance payment of Rs 1.80 crore out of the total Rs 2.25 crore.
It was later discovered that the land belonged to someone else, and Beg failed to return the advance.
Following a written complaint in 2023, an FIR was registered, and an in-depth investigation was conducted.
The investigation, led by a highly professional officer, confirmed the allegations of cheating, fraud, and forgery against Beg and his wife.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch Jammu, Benam Tosh, confirmed that the charge sheet for case FIR No 72/2023 Under Sections 420, 466, 468, 471, and 120-B IPC has been filed in court.
While Afzal Beg was arrested in Srinagar after significant efforts, his wife has been granted bail.
The case now awaits judicial determination.
