ANANTNAG, June 29: Senior BJP leader and senior vice president of party’s district Anantnag unit, Rakesh Koul today said that updation and registration process of left out migrant voters must be carried out intensively and be completed before the announcement of Assembly elections in Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir so that the big chunk of unregistered Kashmiri Pandit voters are able to exercise their franchise and participate in the electoral process for strengthening the democracy of the country.
Koul has also appealed Election Commission of India (ECI) and Chief Electoral Officer Jammu and Kashmir to direct Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner J&K to start the exercise well before the Assembly elections in J&K so that this exercise is accomplished well in time to allow these unregistered migrant voters to participate in the democratic process in large numbers by exercising their franchise and become a part of democracy of the country.
Koul said during recently held successful Parliament elections in the country and in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, it was found that large number of Kashmiri migrant voters were either not updated or not registered in the voter lists after ECI abolished M Form system for migrant votes which has caused a great resentment among the displaced community across length and breadth for such lapse.
He also impressed upon concerned authorities to ensure that no unregistered migrant voters is left out from this process and ensure every KP voter attaining age of 18 is able to exercise his right to franchise.
