RAJOURI, June 30: The Thannamandi market has been experiencing severe water logging issues, significantly impacting local shopkeepers and residents.
The heavy rains have led to water entering numerous shops and residential houses, especially in the Khan Market and Qazi Mohalla areas. The situation is exacerbated by a completely blocked drainage system, which has rendered the Municipality’s response ineffective.
Prominent local shopkeepers Abdul Rashid Shawl, Bashir Ahmed Shawl, and Shahid Mir have voiced their frustrations, blaming the administration and Municipality for their continued suffering over the past five years.
“The administration’s silence is surprising,” stated Abdul Rashid Shawl, whose shop has been repeatedly flooded. “Each year, the rains come, and the same problems arises with no action taken to resolve this issue.”
Bashir Ahmed highlighted the daily struggles faced by shopkeepers and residents. “It’s impossible to cross the market during the rains due to the waterlogging. This not only affects our businesses but also poses significant health and safety risks,” he said.
Shahid Mir said, “We have been pleading for a solution for years. The blocked drainage system has turned our market into a flood zone every rainy season.”
The flooding of rain water in drains and road has caused considerable damage to property and merchandise, resulting in substantial financial losses for shopkeepers. Despite numerous complaints and appeals to the local administration, there has been no substantial effort to address the drainage issues. The residents and business owners in Thannamandi are calling for immediate and effective action from the municipality to rectify the blocked drainage systems and prevent future flooding.
The community has urged the authorities to recognize the severity of the situation and implement long-term solutions to prevent further damage and distress.
