J&K Govt notifies PCRs, designated officers under BNSS

JAMMU, June 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has notified the Police Control Rooms (PCRs) and the designated police officers under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 in the Union Territory.
As per a Home Department notification, Police Control Room Jammu, Police Control Room Srinagar, and District Police Control Rooms shall be treated as the “Police Control Rooms” (PCRs) for the purposes of sub-section (a) of Section 37 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023.
The sub-section (a) of Section 37 of the BNSS mandated establishment of a Police control Room in every district and at State level.
Further, the Government has ordered that the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) at District level and senior most Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Police in each Police Station of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir shall be the “Designated Police Officer” for the purposes of sub-section (b) of Section 37 of the BNSS 2023.
The sub-section (b) of the Section 37 of the BNSS, 2023 mandated designating a police officer in every district and in every police station, not below the rank of Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police, who shall be responsible for maintaining the information about the names and addresses of the persons arrested, nature of the offence with which charged, which shall be prominently displayed in any manner including in digital mode in every police station and at the district headquarters.
Meanwhile, in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (g) of sub-section 4 of Section 329 of the BNSS, 2023, the J&K Government also notified the Scientific Officer and Forensic Consultants in the Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratory, Jammu and Kashmir as “Scientific Experts” for the purposes of section 329 of the BNSS, 2023.
