SRINAGAR, Mar 27: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has appealed to the Inspector General of Police and Centre Reserve Police Force to remove concertina wire in the city as it has become a health hazard for public.
SMC Health Officer, Dr Shafqat Khan, said in a statement that he has shot letter to the IGP Police and CRPF for removal of the concertina wire to clear all encroachments in the Srinagar City.
“Srinagar Municipal Corporation has launched massive anti encroachment drive in Srinagar city in order to clear all encroachments and during the drive it has been found that at many places the concertina wire is causing obstruction and hindering free passage to pedestrian movement,” the letter quotes Khan as saying.
“The concertina wire has also become a serious public health hazard as it is reported that it is causing injuries to women and children and the elderly.  It is also becoming a reason of defacement of many important and vital areas in the heart of the City.”
The SMC letter says: “… It is therefore requested that in the interest of  public and in view of the inconvenience and a public health concern, kindly remove the extra quantity of  concertina wire from all the prominent places of the city and in future adopt a more humane and rational use of this concertina wire.”
