JAMMU, Mar 27: The Annual General Body meeting of Association for Social Health in India (ASHI), J&K Branch, was held here at Raj Bhawan, today. The AGM was chaired by Usha Vohra, First Lady and President of ASHI.
After discussion, the General Body finalized new projects and activities which will be undertaken by ASHI during 2014-15.
Mrs. Vohra stressed the importance of a number of health camps being organized for generating awareness in the rural and far flung areas about the need for maintaining hygiene and following Family Planning practices.        She asked the members of ASHI to organize once a week hygiene awareness programmes in the project areas of Jagti and Panjgrain Panchayats.
The First Lady asked ASHI members to enlarge their activities for promoting education and generating awareness about relevant social issues by utilizing various possible means, including play acting and audio visual means. She exhorted the members to form small groups with identified goals and work collectively to achieve their aims. ASHI members undertook to organize Civil Defence training programmes for young girls in the rural areas.
While reviewing the activities of the Short Stay Homes, Neha Ghar and Apna Ghar, the First Lady asked the representatives of the Health Department to undertake regular health check up of the inmates and particularly conduct Tuberculosis check up of the girls living in these homes.
The First Lady also reviewed the achievements in the Adult Literacy Programme at Simblehar and the functioning of Smart Classes in Government Schools Simblehar and Dhamooni.
Sushma Choudhary, Prof. Ved Ghai, Prof.Kailash Rajput, Prof. Sarla Kohli, Prof. Rita Jitendra, representatives of Health and Social Welfare Departments, among others, were present in the meeting.
