Srinagar, Mar 28: Villagers in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district are mulling migration due to the threat posed by landslides after the incessant rainfall this week.
Habibullah Bhat of Dangerpora village said that two residential houses have been damaged due to landslides and they fear that other houses village might get damaged.
“Landslides are occurring in the village since the rainfall and we feel an imminent threat to the whole locality,” said Bhat, adding that the Government officials have not visited the spot to move them to the safer places.
“We are planning to migrate from the village, and appeal the government to provide us safety,” said Bhat.
Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla, Farooq Ahmad Lone said two houses have been damaged; one partially and one completely.
“I have sent the team headed by Tehsildar to assess the situation. We have provided an immediate relief of Rs 2000 from Red Cross to the affected families. More relief as per SDRF will be given to the families after the assessment report,” Lone said.
“We have shifted 10 families to safer places due to threat of landslides”, Lone said.
