LEH, July 8: The Leh Apex Body (LAB) convened for a detailed meeting under the co-chairmanship of Chering Dorjey Lakrook, following a hiatus during the recent general elections.
The meeting, which included representatives from various Ladakhi associations, political parties, and student unions, focused on strategizing the advocacy of their four-point demands to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India.
Central to their discussion was the decision to schedule a joint meeting with the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), led by LAB Chairman Thupstan Chhewang.
This collaborative effort aims to renew dialogue with the MHA, emphasizing that future actions hinge on the Central Government’s response to Ladakh’s demands.
Additionally, the LAB addressed the pressing issue of restarting recruitment processes within Ladakh Union Territory to alleviate youth unemployment.
They also voiced strong support for a proposal mandating Ladakh Resident Certificates for contractors bidding on projects up to Rs 5 crore, aiming to prioritize local businesses and enhance self-employment opportunities.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to proactive engagement with Governmental bodies to achieve these objectives, reflecting LAB’s dedication to advancing Ladakh’s socio-economic interests.
