JAMMU, July 8: The Finance Department has asked the Treasury Officers (TOs) to complete the physical verification of the pensioners and the family pensioners by September 2024 for the year 2024-25.

A circular issued in this regard said that the J&K Treasury Code Volume-I mandates all the pensioners and family pensioners, whether drawing their pension from the Treasury or J&K Bank Business Units, to present themselves in person for physical verification once a year.
As such, the Department instructed the TOs to commence this task immediately and complete it by the end of September 2024.
However, exemptions have been provided for pensioners who are unable to appear in person due to illness, old age (80 years and above), or other valid reasons.
In such cases, Treasury Officers have been asked to send a staff member to the pensioner’s residence for verification as the department has laid focus on verification of pensioners/family pensioners of the age group of 80 years and above.
For pensioners residing abroad, the procedure laid out in Rule 5.80(b) of the Treasury Code Volume-I shall be strictly followed, ordered the Finance Department.
Treasury Officers and J&K Bank Business Unit Branch Heads have also been instructed not to request any additional forms or photographs from pensioners.
“The Branch Heads will hand over the PPO halves, detailing the pension paid, to the Treasury Officer,” ordered the Department.
After verification, the Treasury Officers have been asked to photograph the pensioners and upload the images, appending a signed certificate to the PPO halves. This certificate will confirm that the pensioner has been verified either at the treasury or their residence, and that their entitlement to the pension is in order. Any discrepancies will be noted.
The Director General of Accounts and Treasuries, Finance Department, has issued these instructions to ensure a smooth and efficient verification process for all pensioners.
