SUYOG-LJK Summit discusses emerging opportunities in manufacturing sector

JAMMU, July 9: The SUYOG -LJK (Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir) Opportunity Summit, discussed the emerging opportunities in manufacturing sector in the twin UTs of J&K and Ladakh here, today. The event highlighted an unprecedented wave of undergoing industrial development in the region.
The summit was graced by Vikramjit Singh, Commissioner/Secretary to Government, Industries and Commerce Department, J&K as chief guest. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to resolving industry-related issues. He announced that the J&K Government has forwarded a proposal to the Centre for the extension of the registration period under the new industrial policy. He also mentioned that his Department has requested the procurement of 20,000 kanals of additional land for industrial development.
CA Sat Sharma, Board Member of LEAD, highlighted India’s historical economic competence, noting that “during British rule, India contributed 27% of the world’s GDP,” and was a significant industrial economy.
He asserted that India has shown excellent progress in the manufacturing sector over the last 10 years and is on the rise. He emphasized LEAD’s ongoing efforts to support and guide local entrepreneurs and manufacturers.
Arun Kumar Manhas, Director, Industries & Commerce, Jammu, projected Kathua as a future industrial hub of the region. He also highlighted the significance of industrial economy for achieving sustainable growth in economy.
Khalid Jahangir, Managing Director, JKTPO, pointed to the evolving ecosystem of J&K as a catalyst for the development of the manufacturing industry, which will generate significant potential for setting up ancillary and services units and provide opportunities for the locals.
The summit also welcomed students and young professionals from J&K and Ladakh, providing them with valuable insights into the evolving manufacturing landscape and potential career paths through interactive sessions.
Over 300 participants were present during the summit. The discussions aimed to bridge the gap between vision and action, focusing on knowledge dissemination and collaboration.
Sunil Shah, Director of LEAD, underscored the importance of the SUYOG series as a unique interactive platform fostering collaboration between the Government, new industries, and local businesses to explore mutual benefits.
The event was co-hosted in partnership with the J&K Branch of NIRC of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. CA Vineet Kohli, Chairman of ICAI Jammu, opened the event with a discussion on the crucial role of Chartered Accountants in a growing economy.
The annual souvenir (2023-24) of LEAD, compiled by Sanjeev Sharma, was also released during the event. Other dignitaries present included Harinder Gupta, CA Rajeev Gupta, Rajesh Jain, and Rajesh Gupta. Representatives from key industrial associations of Bari Brahmana, Kathua, Chamber of Commerce, FICCI, CAIT, FICCI Flow, ASSOCHAM, CII, and PHD Chambers participated.
