Girl dies of electrocution, 12 others sustain shock

POONCH, July 9: A young girl died of electrocution and 12 others sustained electric shock besides injuries when they accidently came in contact with a general power line passing along a Madrassa building, here this evening.
The incident took place at Madrassa Dastar- us- Sunnah in Kunayan/Bainch area of Poonch around 8 pm when the girls were on terrace of the Madrassa to collect washed clothes.
Due to high winds, a dupatta being carried by the deceased girl touched general line passing along the Madrassa building resulting into her electrocution. As other girls attempted to rescue her, they also sustained electric shock and injuries.
The injured were taken to District Hospital Poonch and their condition was stated to be stable. Medical Superintendent DH Poonch Dr Nusrat Bhatti said that three of them were under observation while others were discharged.
The deceased girl was identified as Maryam Javid, resident of Khaneter. Police have taken cognizance of the matter and registered a case in this connection.
Meanwhile locals alleged negligence of PDD as cause of the mishap. They said that it was repeatedly requested to the PDD to shift this power line from there or use cable on the same to avoid any mishap but nothing was done.
