JAMMU, July 10: Balbir Ram Rattan, former Vice Chairperson of the J&K SC, ST, BC Development Corporation, has accused the Congress party of discrimination against the SC and ST communities.
In a statement, Balbir alleged that the party prioritizes political gains over the welfare of these marginalized groups.
His remarks came in response to an official inquiry by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) into the diversion of over Rs 14,000 crores from the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) and Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) allocations in Karnataka.
Rattan criticized the diversion of funds intended for SCs and STs, arguing that such actions undermine efforts to empower these communities.
He condemned the Karnataka Government’s decision to redirect these funds, calling it a betrayal of central assistance programmes’ intended goals.
Balbir highlighted what he perceives as hypocrisy within the Congress, noting that while the party claims to support SCs during elections, its actions suggest a lack of genuine commitment to their socio-economic advancement.
He urged the public not to trust the Congress and praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his inclusive approach to governance, emphasizing Modi’s initiatives that cater to all citizens regardless of caste, creed, gender or region.
The BJP leader commended the NCSC’s intervention, describing it as necessary to hold State Governments accountable for effectively implementing development plans for Scheduled Castes, particularly under the Special Component Plan and Special Central Assistance schemes.
