Woman dies in GMC Rajouri, family alleges negligence

RAJOURI, July 11: The family members and relatives of 45-years-old woman, who died during treatment due to `alleged medical negligence’ in GMC Rajouri today, held protest demanding action against the concerned hospital staff.
After the death of patient in the hospital, the family members created a ruckus in GMC and accused the doctors of negligence. It was learnt that Naseem Begum hailing from Manjakote area, who was undergoing treatment in GMC Rajouri for some time, her health suddenly deteriorated on Thursday and she died this afternoon.
On hearing the news of death, the family members of the deceased woman started creating ruckus in GMC, during which the woman’s brother-in-law Mohammad Afzal said that the doctors did not treat the woman properly here at all. When her health deteriorated, they were asked to bring an oxygen cylinder, they also brought an oxygen cylinder but even then the doctors did not pay any attention to her.
Expressing strong anger, the family members said that when a woman doctor available in the emergency was asked to examine the sick woman, she said, ” let whatever happens happen to her. I am examining other patients.”
The family members said that the doctors did not even bother to see the woman at the last moment and did not examine her, due to which the woman died in agony. The police personnel posted at the police post of GMC Rajouri present on the spot pacified the agitating family members and saved the hospital property from vandalism.
Principal GMC Rajouri Professor, Dr A S Bhatia, however, said that the lady patient was admitted to GMC Rajouri and it was a known case of breast cancer with metastasis, along with concomitant diseases of diabetes and high blood pressure. She was given oxygen at the time of admission and oxygen saturation was 90% at the time of death. She was a cancer patient with metastasis and was brought to GMC Rajouri in terminal stage and in spite of all supportive measures provided by the doctor, as soon as the patient was examined by surgeon and physician specialist, the patient breathed her last. However, if some paramedical staff or doctors have misbehaved or used foul language with the attendants, it will be taken seriously by GMC administration and strict action will be initiated.
