3 killed, two children among 25 injured

DODA, July 13: In yet another tragic road accident on the deadly roads of Doda region today, three persons lost their lives while 25 others sustained injuries, some critical, when the vehicle they were on board skidded off the road and landed into a deep gorge near Batyas Malikpura area in Tehsil Gandoh Bhallessa of district Doda.

The ill-fated passenger vehicle was a mini-bus bearing registration number JK06A- 0469 and it was on way to Thathri from Khaljugsar when the driver lost control over the vehicle and it rolled down into a deep gorge leaving two persons dead on the spot and 26 others injured.
After getting information, DC Doda, Harvinder Singh; SDM Gandoh, Arun Badyal; SDPO Gandoh; SHO Police Station Gandoh, Inspector Parvaiz Khanday along with locals of the area rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
The dead and injured persons were shifted to SDH Gandoh from where 9 critically injured persons were referred to GMC Doda while the driver of the vehicle was shifted to GMC Jammu as his condition was very critical.
The deceased were identified as Bashira Begum, 50, wife of Mussa, resident of Chatroo and Saleema Begum, 55, wife of Sadar Din, resident of Kahara. Click here to watch video
Injured were identified as Suresh Kumar, son of Hari Lal, resident of Khaljugsar; Sumera Kouser, daughter of Liyaket Ali, resident of Khaljugsar; Aftab Hussain, son of Alam Hussain, resident of Khaljugsar; Rajdav, son of Bhag Singh, resident of Sindra Bhalla; Gh. Hassan, son of Haider Din, resident of Chilly Balla; Momin Irshad, son of Irshad Ahmed, resident of Tendla; Mohd Rafiq, resident of Jakyas; Haroon Rashid, son of Din Mohd, resident of Sarthi; Momin Ahmed, son of Mohd Shafi, resident of Jakyas; Mubarak Ali, son of Mohd Sultan, resident of Batt Gowari; Yasir Hussain, son of Talib Hussain, resident of Samie; Abdul Latif, 60, son of Ab Aziz, resident of Bunjwa; Noor Hussain, 48, son of Gani, resident of Samie; Amit Kumar, 26, son of Paritam Singh, resident of Kahara; Bashir Ahmed, 60, son of Murla Ganie, resident of Chagso; Archna Devi, 25, wife of Amir Kumar, resident of Pingal; Qamar Din, 22, son of Akhyar Din, resident of Arsarlad; Mohd Asif, 22, son of Mohd Shafi, resident of Gangota; Rutba, 8, resident of Srinagar; Razina Begum, 30, wife of Ab. Wahid, resident of Kilhotran; Manzera Begum, 40, wife of Manzoor Ahmed, resident of Thathri; Mubarik Hussain, 26, son of Ab Qayom, resident of Tipry; Mohd Yasir, 35, son of Talib Hussain, resident of Samie; Shoket Ali, 32, son of Khair Mohd, resident of Tippry; Tahira Begum, 27, wife of Shair Hussain, resident of Changa and Zeenat Tabassum, 5, daughter of Shah Hussain, resident of Changa.
Driver of the vehicle Mohd Asif, son Mohd Shafi who was critically injured in the accident and was shifted to GMC Jammu, succumbed to his injuries en-route.
MoS PMO Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed deep shock over the accident. On social media platform ‘X’ (earlier Twitter) he posted: “Spoke to DC #Doda Harvinder Singh after learning about the tragic road accident in which a mini bus rolled down a deep gorge at Thathri Gandoh leading to loss of 3 lives and injuries to 25.”
When contacted, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda, Javed Iqbal said that causes of the accident were being analysed by the technical team of Transport Department.
He said that the mini-bus has a capacity to carry 26 passengers and of the 25 injured, 1-2 were critical and 10-12 were having minor injuries and were undergoing treatment at GMC Doda while others were with little injuries and were sent home from Gandoh Sub District Hospital.
The SSP said that the injured also included two children.
Police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law at Gandoh Police Station and started investigation.
