Counter terrorism measures

Sir,
This pertains to the recent proposal to invoke the Enemy Agents Act against individuals aiding Pakistani terrorists, as reported in your publication.
While it is crucial to combat terrorism effectively, such measures should not compromise fundamental principles of justice and fairness. The Enemy Agents Act, with its severe penalties including life imprisonment and death penalty, warrants careful scrutiny. Its application must be judicious to ensure it targets genuine threats without unduly infringing on civil liberties.
Moreover, transparency and accountability in its enforcement are paramount to prevent misuse and ensure public trust in law enforcement.
As citizens, we support rigorous efforts to safeguard national security, but urge authorities to uphold due process and uphold constitutional values in every step.
It is vital that our responses to security challenges do not undermine the very freedoms and rights we seek to protect.
