LEH, July 15: Jigmet Rafstan of Stok village won the election of Ladakh Buddhist Association’s (LBA) Youth Wing Presidency, held here today.
The counting took place at Chowkhang in the presence of three candidates, Jigmet Rafstan, Rigzin Tamchoes and Tsewang Dorje.
Jigmet Rafstan emerged victorious with 33 votes, while his closest contestant, Tsewang Dorje, secured 14 votes. Rigzin Tamchoes managed to get only two votes.
Speaking on the occasion, Jigmet Rafstan reiterated his commitment to working for the cause of youth, including addressing the drug menace, demanding Sixth Schedule status for Ladakh, maintaining communal harmony, and collaborating with the LBA parent body on projects such as the reconstruction of Chowkhang Vihara, the construction of a Gompa in Kargil and other initiatives that may arise from time to time for the cause of the Buddhist community.
The results were announced by Sonam Dorjay, who was the Returning Officer.
The candidates expressed satisfaction with the election process and arrangements.
