SCW arrests 4th accused in PSI murder case

JAMMU, Jul 15: The Special Crime Wing (SCW) of the Crime Branch (CB) has apprehended another key accused in the murder case of PSI Deepak Sharma.

Laddi Ram of Sherpur, Kathua, was arrested early morning from a village on the Ludhiana-Pathankot road in Pathankot, Punjab, a police officer said.
Posted at Police Station Ramgarh in Samba District, PSI Deepak Sharma, originally from Udhampur District, attained martyrdom on April 2, 2024, while attempting to arrest criminals wanted in the Akshay Murder Case, at GMC Kathua.
During the encounter, the main accused, Vasudev alias Shunnu, was killed, but five of his associates managed to escape.
The investigation in the case, initially handled by Police Station Kathua, was transferred to the SCW Crime Branch Jammu by the PHQ J&K after around one month of the commissioning of the crime.
The SCW’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) had previously arrested three accused identified as Himanshu Bassi of Nawashaher, Teja of SBS Nagar, and Jasvir Singh alias Baba of SBS Nagar, all from Punjab.
Another accused, Rohit Kumar alias Makkhan of RS Pura, Jammu, was arrested by Punjab Police in another murder case based on leads provided by the SCW Crime Branch Jammu.
While Bassi and Kumar were present at the crime scene, Teja and Singh were arrested for harbouring the suspects in Punjab.
Meanwhile, a team led by SSP SCW Crime Branch J&K, Sandeep Mehta, today arrested another key accused, Laddi Ram of Sherpur, Kathua, from a village on the Ludhiana-Pathankot road in Pathankot.
“Laddi was arrested by a team of SCW Crime Branch J&K, that was stationed in Punjab for the past some time,” Mehta told the Excelsior.
The police officer said that a preliminary charge sheet has been already presented against three individuals in the case a supplementary charge sheet will also be filed soon.
Meanwhile, a manhunt is underway to apprehend two remaining suspects.
