Revenue official caught red handed with Rs 40000 bribe

SRINAGAR, July 16: Sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Srinagar today apprehended a Revenue official red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 for issuing revenue extracts.
The arrest followed a complaint filed by an individual alleging that Patwari Halqa Chanapora, Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Bhat of Bugam, Chadoora, demanded the bribe in exchange for processing documents related to the sale of residential property and land at Gurudwara Lane, Chanapora, Srinagar.
The complaint, received by ACB Srinagar, prompted a discreet verification confirming the demand, leading to the registration of FIR number 17/2024 under section 7 of the PC Act 1988.
Accordingly, a trap set by ACB Srinagar resulted in catching the accused in the act of accepting the bribe.
Upon arrest, the accused, Farooq Ahmad Bhat, was found in possession of Rs 35,000 in cash.
An ACB spokesperson confirmed ongoing investigation into the matter.
