JAMMU, July 17: After digging by the Jal Shakti/PHE Department (City Div) about eight (8) months ago, the lanes in the Indira Colony/ Lakkad Mandi area of Janipur (Ward 36) in Jammu North, have been left unrepaired.
The contractor neither lifted the broken tiles or the stones etc from the lanes till date while most of the dug -out tiles have been left scattered in the lanes, causing injuries to the passers by during night hours. The JMC and the PHE authorities appeared to be so non-serious and insensitive towards the problem of the public that despite repeated requests of the concerned Ward Member and the local residents, the officers at the helm of affairs least bothered to take up urgent repair work.
Height of negligence on the part of JMC authorities can be gauged from the fact that after a long gap of over eight months, the broken lanes have not been repaired. Even the broken tiles and dumped Malba not lifted to facilitate the residents. It has become difficult for the LPG delivery vehicles, school going vans of the children and other private vehicle of the residents to move through these unattended lanes.
The repeated requests of the residents of Ward 36 to the concerned Corporator, have yielded no results so far. Earlier, it was claimed that due to Lok Sabha elections and Code of Conduct, work will be done after June 4 but now a senior JMC officer has claimed that PHE authorities have not transferred funds to them for work. On the other hand, concerned PHE Officer stated that funds already stands deposited with the JMC few months ago. Now, JMC Jt Commissioner, Works has to initiate process. However, amidst these claims and lame excuses of JMC/PHE officers, the public of Wards 36, Indira Colony, Janipur is badly suffering.
