SRINAGAR, July 18: Police today arrested a drug peddler in Baramulla and recovered 5 kgs of contraband poppy straw from his possession.
Authorities said that a police party from Police Station Tangmarg, headed by the SHO of Police Station Tangmarg, intercepted a load carrier bearing registration number JK05D-9395 at a checkpoint established at Zeeran Tangmarg.
The vehicle was driven by Tariq Ahmad Bhat, son of Gh Qadir, a resident of Hathishat Sopore, police said.
“During the search, 5 kgs of a contraband poppy straw-like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Tangmarg where he remains in custody,” police said.
The vehicle used in the commission of the crime was also seized on the spot, police added.
Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Tangmarg, and an investigation has been initiated.
