GMC Rajouri starts indoor drug deaddiction facility

JAMMU, July 19: Government Medical College Rajouri today started indoor admission facility at Associated Hospital Rajouri to start drug deaddiction which is on the top priority of Government.
As per the direction of Secretary to Health & Medical Education Dr. Syed Abid Rashid Shah the indoor facility has been started with the placement of a Psychiatrist in the Government Medical College Rajouri. There has been an alarming increase in the proportion of young people taking substance of abuse.
Speaking to this correspondent Principal Government Medical College Rajouri Prof. Dr A S Bhatia said that many patients coming to the Hospital with history of drug abuse and the commonly used drugs include heroin, opium, alcohol, cannabis among others.
The most serious among these is ” Chitta Addiction” which is basically heroin and the cost of ” Chitta” is around Rs. 4000 – 5000 per gram & most of the users in the age group of 18-25 years don’t have money to buy it thereby compelling them to go to the World of Crime”, he said.
Incharge Psychiatrist Dr. Pervaiz Alam said the symptoms of drug addiction is declining physical health, irritation, fatique, not interested in daily routine affairs. Medical Superintendent Dr Mehmood Hassan said that with the starting of this facility the heavily addict persons who require admission for withdrawing the drug of abuse will be greatly benefitted”.
Principal Government Medical College Rajouri further stressed upon the parents to keep a close watch on the behaviour of their children and any deviation from the normal activities should be taken care of seriously.
