Teach Cong a lesson for shelving Poonch-Rajouri rail link project: PDP

Excelsior Correspondent
SUNDERBANI, Apr 1: Lambasting Omar Abdullah led Coalition Government for its failure to convince the Railway Ministry to start work on Rajouri-Poonch rail link, PDP candidate for Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat today exhorted the people to teach a lesson to the Congress party for shelving this prestigious project.
He assured that PDP, if wins the election, will strongly take up this issue in the Parliament to force the Union Government to start the project.
Addressing series of meetings of party workers in Sunderbani area, Mr Sharma said  that it was utter failure on the part of the State Government in general and Congress leadership in particular that the project to connect twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri through rail link has been shelved by the Railway Ministry without any reason. For the last 10 years, Congress is in a power at Centre but party leadership failed to get this project started.
Mr Sharma asserted that PDP would not remain a mute spectator to the decision of the Government to shelve this project because connecting these two border districts with rail link is must to boost economy of the residents of these two districts.
He demanded that instead of shelving this project, the Government must declare Poonch-Rajouri rail link as national project because this link would bring more tourists, and generate income for people of the region. He observed that it will not be very difficult to connect Rajouri and Poonch by train because much tunnelling would not be required on this track.  He further said that a rail link between the two districts could accelerate socio-economic development.
