SRINAGAR, Apr 1: Police today cane-charged dozens of Anganwadi helpers and supervisors after they refused to disperse near Deputy Commissioner’s office in Anantnag.
The agitated workers were demanding release of long pending monthly honorarium.
The workers assembled in Anantnag town and were marching towards DC office to submit a memorandum, when police asked them to disperse.
They staged protests against the present ruling Coalition Government for their failure to release the eight-month-long salary.
The protesters under the banner of Helpers and Workers Association shouted anti-Social Welfare Department and anti-Government slogans for their failure to release their salaries.
CPI (M) leader, M Y Tarigami condemned the action against the peaceful protesters and demanded that their monthly honorarium be released immediately.
Tarigami lambasted the Government for its failure to meet the aspiration of working class here. “I want to ask the Government is this the first gift the present Government has given to poor people on their election campaign,” he said.
